PELIKAN'S COLOURING CONTEST 2018/2019

IT'S THE BEGINNING THAT MATTERS

Pelikan’s “It’s the Beginning That Matters” Colouring Contest was organised as part of its Back to School Campaign for 2018/19, giving children the chance to showcase their artistic talents and get rewarded handsomely for their efforts! Contest for Stage 1 of the Colouring Contest started on 1st November 2018 and ended on 18th February 2019!
Stage 2 of the Colouring Contest was held live on 23rd March 2019 with 33 finalists chosen based on the best artworks submitted from Stage 1 invited to battle for the grand prize in each category at a private venue.

Colouring Time!

Every year, Pelikan Malaysia organises a colouring contest for school going children who love art and colouring. We believe in encouraging children’s creativity through art which allows children to express themselves uniquely while fostering their passions, emotions and curiosity. We invite children from around the country to share their creative talents and we hope that children will continue to create wonderful art always.

For this year, Pelikan Malaysia promotes the theme of nature and underwater with our friends from the sea, namely our resident crab! We hope that all kids will unleash their artistic expressions and imagination under the sea using Pelikan’s colouring materials.

On Saturday, 23rd March 2019, Pelikan Malaysia held the Stage 2 Colouring Contest of the "It's the Beginning that Matters" campaign live with 33 contestants chosen as the finalists in 2 categories: Category A (5-8 years old) and Category B (9-12 years old). With only 2 hours given to draw and colour based on an Environmental theme artwork, the children gave their best vision using their creative thinking and artistic skills. We would like to thank all the contestants and their families for taking the time and effort to spend the day with us, especially those who traveled from far!

The day started off at 9 am sharp in a spacious location in Ara Damansara, Selangor, with bright lights and adjacent to highways and LRT station, when the contestants came to register and have light breakfast together. By 9:45 am, nearly all the contestants were already present, hence our lovely MC, Ms. Prosperity greeted all the guests and read to everyone the rules of the colouring contest. We sat the contestants by their categories, and allowed them almost 10 minutes to set up their stationery at their tables to prepare for the colouring contest. Contest started at 10:13 am and the children immediately attacked the colouring sheets given with their ideas, imagination and lots of colouring. The children were so impressive and immersive to watch. Pelikan staff went around to observe and help the children should they need any assistance, while their parents and family members waited behind with anxiety and hope for the best! After what seems like eternity, with only 30 mins left to the clock, the contestants powered on to make the final touches to their artworks. By 12:13 pm, the colouring contest came to a halt and every child were asked to put down their colouring materials. After many photos later, colouring sheets were collected for judging time, while the contestants packed up and thereafter, proceeded for a scrumptious lunch prepared for the guests.

The colouring contest results were determined based on a few factors: the technical drawing and colouring skills, originality, composition and neatness, and overall creativity and theme orientation. Apart from the Pelikan judging members, we invited 2 independent judges this year to give the contestants unbiased input and scoring. First was Mr. Ali Nurazmal Yusoff, who is one of the prolific painters in the Malaysian contemporary art scene. His larger than life realist paintings can be found in the permanent collections of Balai Seni Lukis Negara (National Art Gallery) and just like the contestants, he was exposed to various art expositions since the young age of 9. We also had Ms. Zephany Kwan, a creative graphic designer by profession, who has been passionate about art since her schooling days winning many art and drawing competitions, as well as designed for many international brands and clients. The judging took a longer time than expected because the art level was that amazing, but the judges unanimously scored for the same winners for both categories.

By 1:35 pm, the winners announcement and prize giving ceremony commenced on stage with the friendly Pelikan mascot in tow. Our judges helped to give out the prizes to our deserved winners from the top prize to the consolations and tokens for all the contestants. You may view below for the winners' list! We were so amazed by all the children who showed their colouring talents and creativity during the colouring contest. Not only did they power on relentlessly for 2 hours, their understanding and artistic vision about the Environment theme really captured us all and everyone did a spectacular job conveying their message about Environment from idea to paper using Pelikan colouring and drawing materials. We are really grateful that the colouring contest went smoothly and ended well with all the children finishing their artwork on time and with a creative bang.

We want to wish all the chosen winners a big CONGRATULATIONS for doing so well this colouring contest. It was no easy feat to accomplish with high pressure on their performance but we are glad that the children pulled it off and never cease to amaze us with the spectacular artistic quality that they have shown. For those who did not win their award of choice, please do not despair as there will be more chances and colouring contests by Pelikan to show off and unleash your creativity. We hope the children continue to enhance their talents and potential in art. Just keep on practising!

We also like to thank all the parents and guardians who accompanied the contestants during the colouring contest. Thank you for your patience and understanding over the rules of the colouring contest. Your cooperation was very much appreciated and made the event memorable. We hope to see everyone again next year.
